Der bliver taget hul på et nyt kapitel i Danmarks grønne omstilling, når de to partnere, energiselskaberne OK og E.ON 1. marts udskifter naturgas med certificeret biogas på deres fælles gastankstationer i København.

Transportsektoren er i dag klimapolitikkens store problembarn, og er den eneste sektor, hvor CO2-udslippet blot er steget de seneste 25 år. Det er især inden for den tunge transport den største udfordringen findes, og derfor markerer overgangen fra naturgas til den klima- og miljøvenlige biogas et vigtigt skifte.

Ifølge Energistyrelsen er biogas det mest klimarigtige brændsel i den tunge transport, fordi biogasproduktion både erstatter fossile brændsler i transportsektoren og reducerer udslip fra gyllen på landbrugsmarkerne, der ellers ville udlede både metan- og lattergas.
Derfor er biogassens CO2-fortrængning højere end 100 procent, og den fordel har blandt andet været en central årsag til, at Københavns Kommune har valgt at lade hovedparten af hovedstadens skraldebiler overgå til biogas.
I dag kører 36 københavnske skraldebiler på gas og man forventer, at der kommer yderligere 39 gaslastbiler på de københavnske veje inden maj.
